ILLUMINATE DOWNTOWN!
The Parksville Downtown Business Association (PDBA) is making grants available to downtown property and business owners to better illuminate their buildings and properties.
In 2009, grants of up to 50% of the approved work to a maximum of $500.00 are available for installation of Security Lighting which will illuminate property and improve security. A budget of $20,000 has been allocated to support this initiative. The goal of this program is to better illuminate downtown streets, alleyways and public spaces as well as enhancing comfort levels for all who visit, work and live here.
Guidelines:
To be eligible for a grant, a property must be located within the boundaries of the Business Improvement Area. An application must be received and approved by the Executive Director of the PDBA in advance of any work proceeding. All work must receive permits, if necessary, prior to commencement of project. Grants will be paid upon satisfactory completion of work and presentation of all receipts to the PDBA

Seeking a Five Year Mandate
Petition packages have been mailed to all property owners within the Business Improvement Area. The deadline for returning these petitions is July 15, 2009.
“For the past three years, The Parksville Downtown Business Association has successfully administered funds received through a levy on properties within the Business Improvement Area. This current mandate expires on December 31, 2009 and we are now seeking a further five year mandate from property owners” states PDBA Executive Director, Ann Cameron
Cameron continues “ A five year mandate will allow the PDBA to continue improvements in Parksville’s downtown core. Services provided range from marketing and promoting the downtown through events, brochures, communications with property/business owners to improving or beautifying the Business Improvement Area with public art, landscape improvements and seasonal banners. The PDBA also provides graffiti removal and litter removal services in the downtown and have recently developed a grant program which will assist property/business owners with the purchase of security lighting”
