New Waterfront Walkway opens in Community Park
A half kilometer extension of the waterfront walkway has officially opened. Mayor Ed Mayne, MLA Ron Cantelon and two former mayors were on hand to perfrom the official opening.
Thrifty's Expansion Opens

After a year-long wait, customers were pleased to check out Thrifty Foods' new expansion on Wednesday, a spacious new area with a larger deli and fresh food section. "It's a good start," said store manager Doug Riederer.
The signage and theme of the new area will eventually spread throughout the store, he said.
The $3-million addition, which expands the Parksville store by about 40%, also includes a bakery, pharmacy and floral section. The last two areas will open in June.

Fairwinds submits plans for Schooner Cove, Lakes District

After a two-year comprehensive planning process, Fairwinds has submitted neighbourhood plans for Schooner Cove and the Lakes District to the Regional District of Nanaimo. The plans "seek to implement the RDN's Regional Growth Strategy and establish a more sustaining and complete community for Nanoose Bay," said Paul Fenske, principal of Ekistics Town Planning, the lead planning and design consultants. The Schooner Cove neighbourhood plan establishes a mixed-use waterfront village with up to 395 condominium units in a range of types, along with an extensive, publicly accessible waterfront.
